Vivaha 2019 (Hindu Marriage Prep Programme)

The Marriage Preparation Program titled “Vivaha: The Hindu Union of Hearts” was jointly organised by the Hindu Endowment Board and the Hindu Centre on September 28 and 29 at the Indian Heritage Centre. The objectives of the workshop style event was to raise awareness among couples to be married about Hindu concepts, traditions, rituals pertaining to marriage and also the secular aspects for a happy married life. The various aspects of financial planning were also covered in this one and a half day workshop.

A wedding is for a day, while a marriage is for a lifetime. In the first part, the concepts of God, Karma and Dharma were extensively covered and their relevance to married life clearly explained. Activities and quizzes formed an integral part of the workshop to bring home and emphasize these different concepts. In short the participants were introduced to the many important aspects in Hinduism, necessary  to lay a strong foundation for marriage.

The second part dealt with rituals and practices with a focus on why we do what we do in a wedding ceremony. The different traditions and practices were explained in the context of those based on the Shastras and those derived from family practices. These were reinforced by the priest from the Sri Srinivasa Perumal temple. The question and answer session was a proof of how keen these couples were to find out about the wedding practices.
The feedback from the participants has been extremely positive. Another session is being planned in February 2020.

Thanks Chitra, Susantharan and Soundharya for sharing your knowledge with the participants.

The event is finished.
