Mass Kanda Shashti Kavacham Chanting 2019
2019 started on a high note at the Hindu Centre with the mass chanting of Kanda Sashti Kavacam. This was the fourth year in a row that this mass chanting event was organized by the Hindu Centre, ahead of the Thaipusam celebrations in Singapore.
This year there were many firsts. For the first time the mass chanting session was held at the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple to enable greater mass participation. The positive outcome from this was that over 170 people took part in the chanting session. This year besides chanting the Kanda Sashti Kavacam, Hindu Centre volunteers also led the chanting of the Skanda Guru Kavacam.
For a third year in a row Dr Ghanavenothan Ratnam and a 10-member orchestra provided musical support to the chanting. One of the highlights of the program was a Bharatanatyam dance performance set to the chanting of the sixth and final round of Kanda Sashti Kavacam, the first of its kind in Singapore. Eighteen students of the Bhaskar’s Arts Academy danced to the piece which was choreographed by Ambuja Thiru. The dance offering to Lord Muruga left everyone mesmerized. It was indeed a unique and soul-stirring experience for everyone present.
Annadaanam and fruits were offered to all the people present and in addition silver Vels were given as parting prasadam to the devotees.
